Laura and Jasons Summer Wedding at Lusty Glaze Beach Cornwall

A proper summer beach wedding at the simply awesome Lusty Glaze Beach in Newquay, Cornwall! I have shot a few weddings at Lusty Glaze over the years and they are always brilliant.

I started the day by popping over to see the boys, getting ready at an apartment they had rented. But I can’t lie, they were rotting after a few too many the night before (I should say, that I grew up with the groom Jason who is a few years younger than me). So after giving them a bit of encouraging banter, I headed to the beach to see the girls! It was great to be working alongside Rich from I do film, who I have also known for years. I don’t often have many weddings where the couples have opted for video coverage as well, so its nice when I have someone to work with for the day!

The sun came out!

As I arrived at the car park at the top off the cliff, I was relieved that the rain had stopped and the sun was making an appearance. Being a July wedding, it started warming up immediately and I was really happy for them, knowing it was going to be the sunny beach day they had wanted.

I met Laura and her bridesmaids and went for a wander around to capture the scene whilst it was still empty. The boys arrived soon after and were busy putting together the finishing touches, Jason on the beach sorting the seating plan. I captured some nice family moments with Laura getting ready, it was really relaxed – just how I like it.

The Beach Ceremony they had dreamed of

Jason and Laura had opted for a celebrant led ceremony with a ring blessing as well. Alexandria did a great job, delivering a lovely personalised ceremony in the sun!

After the ceremony, we had confetti and then some nice chill out time on the beach and in the reserved seating area, with all the guests enjoying a drink and canapés. They also had singer Will Keating playing on the beach, a really cool touch.

I don’t like to rush this time, it’s their day and I like all the hugs and congratulations between the couple and their guests after the ceremony. But I also had the group shots to get done. I advise all my couples to keep the family groups list short. It means less of their day is spent having photos taken but we still get the most important ones. And if I have the names of those in each group, it helps it all flow much easier.

After the groups, I took Jason and Laura for a stroll on the beach, making the most of the low tide, meaning we could escape any other people and they could spend some alone time together whilst I snapped away. The tides were perfect, I love a daytime low tide with a high tide in the evening, exactly what they got.

Lusty Glaze has such a great space for hosting weddings with a blend of marquee and solid structure, right on the beach with the best view! it feels light and airy, almost like being outside but with the benefit of shelter from the elements, rain and the sun! But you are still connected to the outside, you can feel the wind and still hear the waves as they break just metres away. It’s why it’s always booked up year on year!

The speeches were brilliant and delivered before dinner was served. I love capturing the rollercoaster of emotions the speeches often bring, and they were definitely brought at this wedding.

Following dinner, everyone was back onto the beach. The sun had gotten lower and the tide had moved in. The surf was impressive and it gave the boys the excuse they needed to don their budgie smugglers, making a dash into the sea for a pre-planned dip. There were some proper sights as they ran past, it was fucking hilarious. Even more so when best man Jack, exited the sea (surprisingly calmly) minus a tooth.

Everyone was making the most of the beach, the setting, the ice cream and the bar on the beach. It was the start of a really great party evening, with evening band pharaoh and the beats providing the music. It was a proper beach wedding and I was so thrilled for the both that they got their perfect day! Here is their review:

We knew from the outset that we wanted to work with Chris, and we were super pleased he was available when we enquired. Throughout our wedding planning he was more than just our photographer, he was also someone who we could bounce ideas from to make sure we maximised our wedding day to get it absolutely perfect. He provided suggestions including other suppliers who he had worked with, which was a massive help, and was always punctual in responding to any communications.

Chris engaged with our guests, building a good rapport from the outset – many of which commented on how nice he was and easy to work with. His efficiency and coordination meant that we got all the styles of photos we wanted as well as maximising our time with our guests. Throughout our wedding day he improvised from start to finish, using his creativity to get those unique shots which captured our day in a variety of perspectives.

Having now got our photos back, we couldn’t be happier with the outcome, volume, diversity and quality of our wedding photos. We have a blend of traditional and candid shots which captured both the formalities and fun which our guests had. We would have not hesitation in recommending Chris to anyone! Get him booked up before you become disappointed.”
