Real Family Moments

You know how it is, you keep meaning to get some photos done but its hard juggling nursery, school, clubs and life just goes on. Perhaps you are holidaying in Cornwall and would love for me to capture some forever moments of your stay?! Or you have a favourite place you always visit as a family? Let’s go to your favourite beach, woods or open space, or wherever you like and have a walk with the camera!

Being a father myself (Isla & Evie), I am pretty good at quickly getting young kids on board and capturing their personalities. Don’t worry if they are playing up or they get dirty or whatever, we will have a good time and you WILL get some great images of you all together!

Frequently asked questions

Whatever you feel comfortable in is my recommendation. Some people arrive fully colour co-ordinated and others not. All i would say is it can be helpful to not have lots of very bold colours like bright red for example and try to avoid clothing with very big writing on or large logo’s. But really it is whatever you want to wear.

I usually try to time any family photograph to be at the start or end of the day. Depending on the time of year, the ages of those in your family and your availability. I won’t usually do any family photography between 10am and 2pm as the light is at its worst at these times. In winter, it is less of an issue and some of the most beautiful light i have seen has been on a cold winters afternoon at like 3pm. But the sun is at its highest at lunchtime and is at its least flattering angle i.e directly overhead at that time.

Every parent has had that dread of how will their child behave at a particular meeting/appointment/event and i think it puts lots of parents off booking a photoshoot. But don’t let it anymore! Kids will be kids and it is unavoidable. I do most family shoots outdoors, somewhere fun and interesting. I find that it helps loads if the location is outdoors and the kids have space to run and play and roam. I am super patient and i’m usually pretty good at winning kids around. What is really important is that you keep calm and try not to stress about it. There is perfection in the imperfect. A little bit of mud on thor clothes wont ruin the shoot. I want to capture them as they are and that is what you will want to look back on in the future. So just relax, it will be fun!

It is all about capturing you all, as you are. It will be fun and you won’t regret it! Trust me!

I do not offer newborn photography. I did it with both of my daughters and that was stressful enough. I would definitely seek out a specialist newborn photographer as some of the images you may have seen will have been created with great skill with safety paramount (and a heavy use of photoshop to remove the parents from the image who are holding the baby’s head for example). I will happily do a shoot with a baby at your home or out and about, but for the images with a newborn laying with their head in their hands for example, seek a specialist newborn photographer.

All families are different and if you want to bring your dogs for a shoot, then no problem. If you want to bring kids and dogs to a shoot, please let me know in advance as that does create some issues and needs a plan to work out the logistics of the shoot. I am in the process of setting up a website dedicated to Dog Photography. You can find my Dog photography page by searching The Cornish Dogtographer on instagram and the website will be by the same name.

Generally I say count on it being 1-2 hours. It can be shorter than this, sometimes we don’t need long and sometimes, especially with young kids, they get tired or over-stimulated. So it can vary, but either way, you will get some epic images however long we have!

We had a family photoshoot with Chris in Cornwall and he was brilliant. Chris is fantastic with children, keeping them giggling and engaged the whole time
